If you are looking for a healthy and fun snack for your kids, this apple snack cookie activity is for you! I always love it when snack time also turns into a little activity, and my kids love to help out in the kitchen.
One great thing about this Apple Snack Cookie, you can use anything you already have in your pantry. There are no special ingredients needed, as long as you have apples!
Here are the ingredients we used, but don’t feel limited to these, get creative!!
- Biscuit Cutter (or knife)
- Assorted toppings, we used cheerios, Chex cereal, mini chocolate chips, raisins, cranberry raisins, and strawberries
- Peanut Butter
First, slice your apples pretty thin. Then, take a biscuit cutter and cut out the core of your apples in each slice. I just found this method to be the easiest, there are many ways to do this!
If you want to pre-slice your apples a few hours before hand, just throw them in some water, add a little lemon juice and put them in the refrigerator. This will keep them from browning!
If you are doing this activity for a larger group of kids, you can put your ingredients into individual Dixie type cups for each child.
Next, have your kids spread the peanut butter. Mine had a hard time because the apples were a little wet. Heck, I even had a hard time spreading it!! If you dry off the apple slice a bit it makes it a little easier! I like to give them the opportunity to try a skill like this even if I know it will be a mess, so take a deep breath and let them give it a try.
You can find small kid butter knives here! We love these, we use them several times a week for cooking and play dough!
Then let you kids have fun decorating their Apple Snack Cookies!!
Notice the patterns that were formed when decorating this snack. If you are feeling it, go ahead and talk about patterns with your little ones and have them practice a few!
This snack is also a great way for kids to practice their fine motor skills. They will be spreading, pinching and sprinkling as they top their apple slices.
My kids LOVED this snack! They ask for it all the time!!! Honestly, most kids like any food that they are able to get involved in the process of making something!
